LaMucuy Project
The
LaMucuy Bird Observatory
in Merida, Venezuela is dedicated to the ongoing research of
neotropical migrants. This small but well-respected research
station in the Andean
cloud forest gathers baseline Cerulean, Blackburnian, and Canada
warblers, as well as 40 other migratory species. These birds
delight us when they visit the US during spring and fall
migrations, but their status in their winter breeding grounds is
not well understood. As a developing nation, Venezuela lacks the
financial resources to fund this kind of basic research. It is
crucial that we in the North give assistance to the South to
protect the wildlife that gives us such pleasure. The money
provided by KBC will pay for consumables such as mist nets,
bands, film and processing.
We hope to gather additional funds for this project through
individual donations from KBC members and supporters. Tax
deductible donations can be made out to the Kirtland Bird Club
(earmarked for the LaMucuy Project) and sent to KBC, 4310 Bush
Ave, Cleveland 44109.
Please respond by November 30, 2003.
